Potato chips, baby carrots, fruit juice, and what else? I’m curious how many know how simple and healthy it is to create these products ourselves at home with ingredients from the earth.

The “store” that we may have in our home or uptown might often have some empty spots on the shelves. Knowing how to create what we need with what we already have is an amazing, freeing way to live.

I like to promote the fact that for thousands of years, humans have survived without a grocery store in existence. It is a great testament to human intelligence.

How many folks know that the first grocery store to ever open for consumers was only 107 years ago? It’s true, for thousands of years humans have survived living on the earth without grocery stores!

A History Lesson:

The first modern supermarket, known as the ‘Piggly Wiggly Store’ opened in Memphis Tennessee. It was the first supermarket opened for consumers in 1918. One predecessor of the modern supermarket, ‘Astor Market’ operated in New York from 1915 to 1917.

Where did folks get their goods prior to a hundred years ago?
